Beijing Forum Commemorates 110th Birthday of Rewi Alley

On 7 September 2007, a Forum in Commemoration of the 110th Birthday of Rewi Alley and the 20th Anniversary of the Revival of the International Committee for the Promotion of Chinese Industrial Cooperatives (ICCIC) was held in Beijing under the co-sponsorship of SCLF Research Center, ICCIC and the Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries.

The New Zealand Ambassador to China, Tony Browne, and his wife as well as the President of New Zealand-China Friendship Society, Margaret Cooper, attended the Forum. Executive Deputy Director of SCLF Research Center He Dazhang spoke at the forum and called Rewi Alley "a courageous dreamer". He said, "Alley explained the loftiest feelings of mankind with his whole life. He was not only a dreamer full of imaginations, but also a practical doer who worked tirelessly to pursue his ideal."

Alley's nephew David Somerset, Former President of New Zealand-China Friendship Society and former member of ICCIC Executive Board Bill Willmott, ICCIC advisor Isabel Crook and others also spoke at the Forum. They eulogized Alley's contribution to China's revolution and nation building and expressed their fond memories of Rewi Alley, the dear friend of the Chinese people.
