From January 27 to February 3, 2008, at the invitation of the China Soong Ching Ling Foundation (CSCLF), 66 students visited China's mainland in two groups. Dispatched by the Taiwan Top Ten Young People Foundation, one group traveled from Dalian to Harbin and then Beijing, the other group from Shanghai to Beijing. Chen Jianqi, supervisor of the Foundation, led the delegation, with its members from over 20 colleges and universities in Taiwan. Most of the students came to the mainland for the first time.

On January 31, 2008, the CSCLF hosted the Welcoming Dinner and the 2008 Cross-Strait Young Students' Spring Festival Party. Tang Wensheng, vice-chairperson of the CSCLF, made a warm and humorous speech. She said, "You have come to the mainland in the coldest season but at the warmest time. It is very cold these days as it snows in many areas, but you have the warmest atmosphere here, as the Spring Festival is drawing near and the Beijing Olympic Games will be held here soon." In her speech, Tang Wensheng expressed the hope that the youths across the Straits will strengthen their exchanges for a better future.

The Spring Festival Party was co-chaired over by students from both the mainland and Taiwan. They gave wonderful performances, which include: musical instruments playing, dancing, three-and-a-half-sentence ballad, chorus, and lucky draws. At the end of the party, they sang a self-composed song "Our Hearts Are Together", bringing the party to a climax. In the hall resounding with laughter and songs, the youths from the cross-straits sent their best wishes for the Chinese New Year to all the friends from the mainland and Taiwan.

On January 31, 2008, the delegation visited Peking University and on February 2 of the year, they joined the activity "Entering Beijing" in groups, guided by the volunteers from institutes of higher learning in Beijing. Thus they experienced the life of common Beijing people, tasted the campus culture of the colleges and universities, learned about the preparation for the Beijing Olympic Games and enjoyed the beauty of the integration between Old Beijing and New Beijing.
