Seven years ago in Moscow on July 13, 2001, the International Olympic Committee awarded Beijing, the capital of People's Republic of China, the right to host the XXIX Olympic Games in 2008.
With a focus on youth and children, China Soong Ching Ling Foundation is also positively committed to promoting international friendship. In order to utilize our advantage in organizing activities for children at home and abroad and help more children to participate in the 2008 Beijing Olympics, China Soong Ching Ling Foundation launched the campaign "Sign your name and Support the Olympics" at the beginning of this year.
In February this year, the foundation organized some middle-school students to go to France for an exchange program and the "Sign your name and Support the Olympics" campaign was kicked off. Later, visiting delegations to South Korea and Taiwan also brought back signatures of the local students there.
At the same time, the foundation also arranged the signature campaign at receptions held for delegations from Creighton University, St .Mary College, Taiwan university and Fukuoka city in Japan, as well as at charity activities, such as: "All for the children" on International Children's Day in 2008. The signature campaign for the Olympics proved to be a hit among students. At present, 14 groups from home and abroad and more than one thousand students from nearly 40 schools have taken part in this movement.
The Olympic Games will soon be held in Beijing. Our foundation has set up a special online feature for "Sign your name and Support the Olympics". We hope to stimulate the enthusiasm of children from home and abroad to participate in the Olympic Games and to share their happiness. It is also to offer them a platform to "publicize Olympic knowledge, pass on the Olympic spirit and inherit the Olympic culture". At the same time, the signature campaign will continue to be carried out in some areas in China.
