Jointly sponsored by the China Soong Ching Ling Foundation (CSCLF) and Yunnan Overseas Friendship Association, and undertaken by Tengchong County People's Government and Titan Media Group, the RW50 Tengchong the Ultimate 50 KM Trail Running Grand Prix was held in the ancient city of Tengchong on August 8, 2015.

110 competitors from 10 countries and regions along the "One Belt One Road" followed the march route of Chinese expeditionary army more than 70 years ago, aiming at learning the revival power while bearing the history in mind.

Follow the March Route of Chinese Expeditionary Army

12 leaders and guests, including Huang Yi, member of Yunnan Provincial Party Committee, director of the United Front Work Department of CPC Yunnan Provincial Committee, and chairman of Yunnan Overseas Friendship Association, and Jing Dunquan, Vice Chairman of CSCLF, fired shots to start the match. Olympic champions Tang Jiuhong, Gao Min, Yang Ling, Gu Jun, Xiao Qin, Xing Aowei, Guo Weiyang, Qian Hong, and world badminton champion Ye Zhaoying from Championship Athlete Fund started to compete in the race with 110 athlete from different countries.

The event chose the battle route of No. 198 Division of No. 20 Group Army as the racing route. The Beizhai Public House for which the Chinese expeditionary army fought with the Japanese army was the turning point of the route. Athletes stopped at the place to worship the heroes in their unique way. One of the runners, Wang Hongjin, a veteran from Shenyang, stopped in silent tribute, presented flowers and gave a military salute.

Learn the Revival Power While Bearing the History in Mind

On August 6, CSCLF staff members arrived at Tengchong with Olympic champions, world champions and part of athletes of the race. They visited the West Yunnan Memorial Hall of Chinese People's War against Japanese Aggression, and worshipped the martyrs of Chinese expeditionary army in Guoshang Cemetery. They also added new soil to the memorial trees planted by Hu Qili, chairman of CSCLF, Wu Boxiong, honorary chairman of Kuomintang and veteran representatives of Chinese expeditionary army in the cemetery in 2014. They paid great respect to Chinese expeditionary army soldiers who fought bravely in the frontline of west Yunnan battlefield to save the nation from peril. They bore the heroic history in mind and inherited the unyielding and firm national spirit of their ancestors.

The awarding ceremony of the race was held in the evening of August 8. Dai Chengdong, son of General Dai Anlan, and former deputy executive director of the United Front Work Department of CPC Jiangsu Provincial Committee, Wei Xiuyang, grandson of General Wei Lihuang, and former chief engineer of Kunming Steel Corporation, Jing Dunquan, Vice Chairman of CSCLF, Cai Yong, deputy director of the United Front Work Department of CPC Yunnan Provincial Committee and vice chairman of Yunnan Overseas Friendship Association, attended the awarding event and delivered speeches.

The event was a follow-up event of commonweal activities including "Caring for Veterans of Chinese expeditionary army" and "Loyal Spirits back to Country" held by CSCLF. It was also a charitable sports match to carry out the important spirit of the speech of President Xi Jinping, and pass down the firm, peaceful and friendly spirit of the Chinese people. Athletes followed the route of Chinese expeditionary army. 4 veterans including Lu Caiwen, deputy executive chairman of Yunnan Whampoa Military Academy Alumni Association, Zhang Tiliu, Li Huiying, He Shaocong, attended the awarding ceremony. Veterans had a discussion with representatives of Champion Athlete Fund and volunteers. They also awarded the prizes to the top three athletes in both men's and women's group as honored guests.
