Primary School Funded by McDonald Charity Fund Finishes Construction in Sichuan

The McDonald Charity Fund of China Soong Ching Ling Foundation (CSCLF) held a completion ceremony of the teaching building of a primary school in Ya'an, Sichuan Province on May 26, 2016. Jing Dunquan, CSCLF Vice Chairman, and Wu Wei, Vice President of McDonald's (China) Corporation, attended the ceremony with other leaders and guests. Olympic champions Gao Min and Yin Jian, and Chinese basketball athlete Zheng Haixia presented students with badminton, basketball, football and books as gifts, and celebrated the International Children's Day with them.

After the Ya'an Earthquake took place in 2013, McDonald's (China) Corporation and its suppliers donated over 6.1 million yuan to disaster-stricken area through China McDonald Fund. The entire donation was used to build the primary school after evaluation. The reconstructed primary school covers 12,000 square meters, allows 1450 students to study and 240 students to accommodate. The school also has some new facilities including library. Its seismic precautionary intensity reaches Grade 8.

After the ceremony, athletes Gao Min, Yin Jian and Zheng Haixia played basketball, badminton and rope skipping with students, and encouraged them to constantly strive to become stronger.
