Forum on Women Issues in Lancang-Mekong River Basin Opens.

Forum on Women Issues in Lancang-Mekong River Basin, launched on October 19, 2016 in Beijing, invited more than 200 specialists, scholars, government officials and representatives on women issues from China, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam to have discusses on women's development in Lancang-Mekong River Basin.

The four-day event, cohosted by China Soong Ching Ling Foundation (SCLF) and China Women's University and organized by Division of International Cooperation and Exchange and School of Social Work, CWU, was to enhance exchanges and cooperation on women development issues between ASEAN and China, promote friendship, mutual trust and Lancang-Mekong Cooperation as the year 2016 marks the 25th anniversary of the establishment of ASEAN-China dialogue relations.

Mr. Qi Mingqiu, Executive Vice-Chairman of SCLF delivered a welcoming speech at the opening ceremony, stating that promoting Lancang-Mekong Cooperation was a concrete practice put forward on Chinese President Xi Jinping's initiative of building Asia of a common destiny and that it was also a Chinese proposal for enhancing regional development and prosperity. He looked forward to strengthened ties among women's groups and improved international exchanges and cooperation in related fields as a fruit of this forum, which served as an occasion for specialists to study the challenges and opportunities in economy, society and non-heritage development.

In the remarks given by Ms. Huang Ying, Director of General Affairs and Coordination Division of ASEAN-China Centre, she hoped this forum would become a platform for exchange and cooperation on which people can share their foresights, wisdom and practical experiences for delegates to better work together to seek for innovative and creative ways to promote women's development along the Lancang-Mekong River Basin.

Cao Jing, Counselor and Director of Division of Regional Cooperation of MFA, gave a speech at the opening ceremony.

The event got the support from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Cao Jing, Counselor and Director of Division of Regional Cooperation of MFA regarded the convening of the forum of great significance, helpful to deepen the cooperation along the Lancang-Mekong River Basin in various areas.

In the next four days, delegates would discuss issues on three main themes, which are "Women's Economic Empowerment", "Regional Women Development and Protection of Intangible Cultural Heritage" and "Women and Social Management".
