On November 20, 2006, the Universal Children's Day(, the China Soong Ching Ling Foundation and the McDonald's China Co., Ltd jointly announced the establishment of the "China Ronald McDonald House Charities". Mr. Yu Guiling, Vice-Chairman and Mr. Li Ning, Secretary General of China Soong Ching Ling Foundation, H.E. Mr. Clark T. Randt Jr., U.S. Ambassador to China, and Mrs. Randt, Ken Brown, Global CEO of Ronald McDonald House Charities, Mr. Shi Lesheng, McDonald's China CEO, Mr. Fang Zhenyu, President of McDonald's (Asia Pacific, Middle East and Africa), Duchess of York, McDonald charity ambassador for World Children's Day) and Miss Gao Min, former world champion, attended the ceremony.
When Mr. Yu Guiling, Mr. Ken Brown and Mr. Shi Lesheng together pressed the start button, music was played and the logo for "China Ronald McDonald House Charities" was unveiled, symbolizing its official launch.
"Ronald McDonald House Charities" already had projects in 49 countries and regions with 260 Ronald McDonald Houses and had established 108 Ronald McDonald Family Rooms in ten countries and regions. With its official launch in China, "Ronald McDonald House Charities" has now reached 50 countries and regions in the world. In the coming five years, McDonald's China Co., Ltd will raise at least USD 3.35 million through fundraising from the public and enterprises. The money raised will be used jointly by China Soong Ching Ling Foundation and "China Ronald McDonald House Charities" to open Ronald McDonald Houses, Ronald McDonald Children's Centers, Ronald McDonald Foster Villages, Ronald McDonald House Family Rooms and Ronald McDonald Care Mobiles. These philanthropic acts shows that McDonald's as a famous enterprise has a strong sense of social responsibility and true concern for the health and welfare of Chinese children.
With the cooperation of China Soong Ching Ling Foundation and McDonald's China, contribution boxes have been put in more than 770 McDonald's restaurants in China's mainland to encourage donations from the public. Consumers can drop whatever amount they like into the contribution boxes. Between November 20 and December 19, 2006, anybody who donates one yuan will receive a loving card of Reaching Out Your Hand to Relay Your Love, specially designed to celebrate the World Children's Day. The donation will be used to support the sub-program of the "China Ronald McDonald House Charities".
In his address, Mr. Li Ning, Secretary General of China Soong Ching Ling Foundation said: "This charity program shows that the relevant enterprises and welfare institutions are committed to the welfare of children. Both our foundation and McDonald's China Co., Ltd wish that the establishment of "China Ronald McDonald House Charities" will encourage more companies to assume the social responsibilities and repay the society through more channels."
