The Philippine Soong Ching Ling Foundation held its inaugural ceremony in Manila on June 16, 2004. Chi Lijun, Vice Chairwoman of China Soong Ching Ling Foundation (CSCLF), and Xu Dexin, Vice Chairman of Shanghai Soong Ching Ling Foundation, were invited to the Philippines for the occasion at the head of a delegation.

The Philippine Soong Ching Ling Foundation was launched by the overseas Chinese in the Philippines to carry forward the spirit of Soong Ching Ling and her unfinished cause, to raise fundsto help poor women and children in the Philippines, and to strengthen cultural and educational exchanges between children from China and the Philippines.

At the inaugural ceremony, Chinese Ambassador to the Philippines Wu Hongbo, Vice Chairman Chi Liqun and Vice Chairman Xu Dexin delivered congratulatory speeches. Ambassador Wu spoke highly of Mme Soong Ching Ling's great life. He pointed out that Soong Ching Ling cared for the cause of women and children throughout her life, promoting and establishing welfare institutions to protect women and children. She dedicated her life to this work and received widespread respect and compliments. It is encouraging to see more and more people actively participate in her cause, he said. The establishment of the Philippine Soong Ching Ling Foundation shows that the cause created by Soong Ching Ling is constantly expanding and developing.

In Vice Chairwoman Chi Liqun's speech on behalf of our Foundation, she extended our warmest congratulations on the establishment of the Philippine Soong Ching Ling Foundation. She hoped the two foundations would inherit and promote Soong Ching Ling's great spirit and commit to the unfinished work of maintaining world peace, promoting international friendship, strengthening cross-Strait exchanges, promoting the reunification of China, caring for women and children, working for the nation's future, and making contributions to enhance the Sino-Philippines exchanges and deepen the understanding the friendship between the two peoples.

Carlos Chan, Chairman of the Philippine Soong Ching Ling Foundation said at the inaugural ceremony that Soong Ching Ling was a world-famous patriot, a great internationalist, and an outstanding international political activist. Larry Villareal, the founding Chairman, said that with the establishment of the organization in the Philippines there is an organization in Southeast Asia that would carry forward Soong Ching Ling's spirit and develop the undertakings that she cared for. The Philippine Soong Ching Ling Foundation will work together with China Soong Ching Ling Foundation and Shanghai Soong Ching Ling Foundation to build an international network of love, and to do more charitable work jointly.
