On September 5, 2005, China Soong Ching Ling Foundation (CSCLF) and Ferrari Company of Italy co-sponsored the "Ferrari 15000 Red Miles" Charity Gala Dinner Activity in the Chinese National Museum in Beijing. This was the first time for CSCLF and Ferrari to jointly sponsor a charity activity with the theme of promoting charity undertaking through automobile cultural exchange.

Since China and Italy established diplomatic ties in 1970, the two countries have always maintained good diplomatic relations. With the signing of a "Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on the Year of Italy in China in 2006", the exchanges between China and Italy have been further promoted and raised to a higher level. To welcome "The Year of Italy in China" in 2006, "Ferrari 15000 Red Miles", which was planned by Ferrari Company and recommended by the Italian government as a prelude to "The Year of Italy in China", kicked off on August 29, 2005. Two 612 Scaglietti sports cars started from Shanghai, passed through 19 provincial level administrative regions in East, Northeast, North and Northwest China, and covered 24,000 kilometers in two months, accomplishing the magnificent feat of traveling around China. On the tour, the motocade made a brief stop in Beijing for the "Ferrari 15000 Red Miles" Charity Gala Dinner, the most important "Ferrari 15000 Red Mile" activity.

At the "Ferrari 15000 Red Miles" Charity Gala Dinner, one of the Ferrari 612 Scaglietti sports cars that had traveled 24,000 kilometers across China, was auctioned in the form of futures. That night, this Ferrari sports car was auctioned with a starting price of RMB 2 million and was sold at RMB 3.4 million. Together with RMB 136,000 from the auction of other items, all revenues, totaling RMB 3.536 million, were donated to China Soong Ching Ling Foundation for the use of "Soong Ching Ling Pediatrics Award".

The "Ferrari 15000 Red Miles" Charity Gala Dinner Activity played the most splendid prelude to "The Year of Italy in China" with its advocacy of benevolence and helping others.
