To help motivated students from poor families in China's central and western regions to have more opportunities through getting higher education in order to realize their dreams and to contribute to the society, Toyota Motor Corporation donated RMB20 million Yuan to China Soong Ching Ling Foundation to set up the Toyota Aid for College Students from Poor Families. The money will be used to sponsor 1,000 college students from 20 universities in China's central and western regions to finish their college study in 2006--2014.
1. Purpose of the project: to help poor students with high academic achievements and good character from 20 target universities in central and western China to complete their college study; to advocate and mobilize the whole society to care for college students from poor families; and to focus more on the cultivation of talents and the economic development in central and western China.
2. Project description: to select 20 universities in 20 provinces, cities and autonomous regions in central and western China; to sponsor 10 college students from poor families in each university RMB5,000 Yuan every year for 4 consecutive years, in principle. 1000 students in five grades will receive a total sum of RMB20 million Yuan in 9 years.
